In Wulong County, many residents belong to Tujia ethic minorities. They live in wooden hanging houses. In the down floor they feed capitals and pigs while in the hanging floor they live as their living/bedding area, with simple but elegant corridors, exquisitely carved windows and eaves like snubby fishtails.
Every year, they will hold a grand festival or gala from lunar Jan 3rd to Jan 15th. All people, old and young, men and women, will turn out in their best costumes in a big open ground. They sing and dance happily to celebrate a new coming.
Usually they will have a traditional Baishou or Hand Waving Dance in a remarkable, fast and spirited pace, with many vibrating gestures and hand movements.
What Tujia people wear are mostly from their brocade-weaving. The patterns on their clothes reflect their respect and love to the green nature, e.g. birds, fish, insects and seasoning flowers.
