Fanghong Tower, or Memorial Tower of Succeeding in Fighting Against the Floods, was built in 1957 to comemorate the heroic Harbin People succeeding in fighting against floods of Songhua river of the year.
The Tower is 22.5 meters high with stone blocks on the foundation, which represents the imperishability of the riverbanks;the lower step marked 119.32 meters above sea level representing the hightest flood level when the floods devastated Harbin; The higher step marked 120.30 meter above sea level representing the highest water level in 1957 when heroical Harbin people defeated the heaviest flood so far.
In the middle part of the tower are a series of relieves that depict how Harbin people fighted against the floods.
Most vividly, you will see carvings of the brave
and intelligent Harbin people taming the violent floods and eliminating the catastrophes and bringing happiness to the people.
