Located in the northern part of town, this marvelous museum -- the fourth largest in China, it claims -- is well worth a couple of hours of your time. Housed in a pyramid-shaped structure, it has a strong collection of prehistoric and early Chinese artifacts such as oracle bones, tools, and pottery from the Yangshao culture, the Longshan culture, and the early Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties, as well as bronzes, jades, and Han dynasty funeral objects. Exhibits are well documented in English, and the English-language audio tour -- ¥30 ($3.75) with a deposit of either ¥400 ($50) or your passport -- is quite helpful. English-speaking museum guides are available for ¥100 ($13).
