Known as one of the birthplaces of the world ice and snow culture, Harbin served as host for the third Asian Winter Games. Together with Yabuli Skiing Grounds, it has become famous both in China and abroad.
The Harbin Ice-Snow Festival is held from January 5 to February 5 of each year and next year will be the 17th Ice-Snow Festival. The various events in Harbin include the Ice Lantern Amusement Gathering; Economic and Trade Fair; International Ice Carving Contest, sports matches and entertainment activities. In 1998, it attracted 116,000 tourists.
